Overview

The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) is implementing the 9th Edition of the Florida Building Code on December 31, 2026, with the reaffirmation of the annual QA renewal process having started on July 1. Manufacturers must reaffirm their building products to keep their Florida Product Approvals or Miami-Dade NOAs valid.

Four Major Updates

  1. Wind-Load Calculation Standards
    • Adopts the updated ASCE 7-22 standard for calculating wind pressures on building envelopes.
    • Manufacturers must recalculate performance metrics for exterior walls, roofing systems, cladding, and windows.
  2. Enhanced Coastal and Multi-Story Wind Resistance
    • Expands 160 mph wind-resistance and impact-resistant envelope requirements for buildings within 5 miles of coastal or tidal waters.
    • Increases demand for impact-rated certifications for windows, skylights, glazed systems, doors, and wall assemblies.
  3. Energy Code Alignment
    • Shifts to the 2024 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC).
    • Implements stricter insulation R-values, fenestration standards (U-factors and Solar Heat Gain Coefficients), and air tightness requirements.
    • Glass manufacturers must use high-performance Low-E coatings with SHGC capped at 0.25 for vertical glazing.
  4. Product Approval Requirements
    • Mandatory statewide product approval updates for market access.
    • The 9th Edition removes sealed engineering drawing requirements for standard windows, doors, and garage doors.

Filing Process

On the Florida Building Code Online site, locate the existing product registration (FL#), select Editorial/Technical Revision, check the 9th Edition (2026) checkbox, and upload your PDF files to file an FPA Revision.
