Keystone Selected to be SFIA Program Administrator

SFIA Code Compliance Certification Program

Independent oversight for cold-formed steel framing

The Steel Framing Industry Association (SFIA) selected Keystone Certifications to administer its updated Code Compliance Certification (C3) Program beginning January 1, 2027. We are working with SFIA and participating members to prepare for a consistent, efficient transition.

The program gives specifiers, contractors, building officials, and purchasers independent assurance that certified cold-formed steel framing products are produced under documented controls and evaluated against applicable program requirements.

Ask about the SFIA C3 Program

What the Updated C3 Program Provides

Manufacturing Oversight

Unannounced facility audits assess whether participating plants consistently follow the controls defined by the program.

Quality System Review

Quality procedures, production records, and supporting documentation are reviewed with greater emphasis under the updated program.

Compliance Verification

Product information and applicable testing are validated to support conformity with SFIA program and referenced code requirements.

Recognizable Certification

Program labels help the market identify qualifying products backed by independent third-party oversight.

Program Scope

SFIA's C3 Program addresses cold-formed steel framing products manufactured by participating SFIA members. Each participating manufacturing facility is evaluated independently under the program. SFIA's certification programs help ensure that steel framing and connectors meet the most recent international standards published by the International Code Council (ICC).

  • Structural steel stud and track
  • Nonstructural steel stud and track
  • Proprietary framing products within program scope
  • Participating manufacturing facilities

SFIA also maintains a separate certification program for cold-formed steel connectors. Refer to the official SFIA program documents or contact our team to confirm which requirements apply to your products.

How Program Administration Works

Step 1

Prepare

Review the current program requirements and organize quality procedures, product records, and supporting documentation.

Step 2

Validate

Keystone reviews required product testing and documentation for alignment with the applicable program criteria.

Step 3

Audit

Qualified inspectors conduct facility audits to evaluate manufacturing controls and implementation of the quality system.

Step 4

Maintain

Participating facilities address findings, maintain records, and continue to demonstrate compliance through ongoing oversight.

Preparing for January 1, 2027

SFIA, Keystone, and participating members are coordinating training, inspection procedures, and quality-control expectations before the updated program takes effect. Manufacturers can prepare by reviewing the 2027 program document, confirming that procedures reflect actual production practices, and ensuring records are complete and readily available.

The existing SFIA program remains in effect through December 31, 2026. Use the contact form to discuss transition questions or participation in the updated program.

SFIA C3 Program Questions

When does Keystone become the SFIA C3 Program administrator?

Keystone begins administering the updated program on January 1, 2027. SFIA, Keystone, and participating members are coordinating transition activities before that date.

Does each manufacturing location participate separately?

Yes. SFIA's program requirements apply at the manufacturing facility level, so each participating location producing products within program scope is subject to the applicable audit and compliance requirements.

What should manufacturers do to prepare?

Review the 2027 C3 Program document, update quality-control procedures where necessary, organize supporting records, and make sure documented practices match day-to-day production. Keystone can help clarify administrative and transition requirements.

Where can I verify the official program requirements?

SFIA publishes the controlling program documents on its website. Direct links to the current and 2027 requirements are provided in the resources section on this page.
